Are We Ever Going to See a Blade Reboot?

Right now it doesn’t appear that a Blade reboot is in the cards, but if you’re talking about further into the future Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, is optimistic that the daywalker could mount a successful comeback. If any of us are being honest the only thing stopping such a return right now is the specter of the past two sequels that seem to hang over the franchise like a smog cloud, obscuring any clear view towards the genius behind the concept. Blade was, when he first came out, a fresh look at an antihero that didn’t play by the rules and yet was completely dedicated to keeping the world safe by killing off every vampire he could find in an attempt to avenge his mother, who was bitten by a vampire while he was still in her womb.

Upon finding that bloodsucker in the first movie he not only killed him but he destroyed the emergence of the dreaded Blood God that the vampires worshiped as legend. While parts of the original film did get cheesy, a lot of the fight sequences were absolutely amazing. Watching Blade just destroy the vampires one by one was a stunning set of visuals that was unfortunately offset by CGI that was really kind of terrible. There’s still hope for Blade since the CGI was starting to get better during the third movie, but right now there’s just too much going on to consider putting him back in the middle.

One of these days it will happen though:

Blade wouldn’t really fit into the MCU at this point.

He would and he wouldn’t to be more accurate. He might fit in better with a group like the Defenders, but in the Infinity War scenario and aftermath he’s kind of an odd man out. In fact it’s kind of safe to state that when it comes to working with others he’s not always the best person to count on since he works alone more often than not and doesn’t really get along with anyone. He’s been known to team up with heroes a time or two but when it comes to his own personal vendetta against vampires he’s kind of a one-man wrecking crew and doesn’t really accept much help. At this point a film or a movie would be kind of pointless since you’d have everything leading up to the current state of the MCU, and then you’d have Blade. It’s tough enough to fit those characters featured on Netflix into the current state of the MCU, but Blade would be that lone mercenary that wants nothing to do with anyone, at least that’s how it seems.

A reboot would be the only way to go really.

Recall that in Blade 3 that an antigen, or cure, or whatever was created to wipe out the entirety of the vampire race. It didn’t work so well on Drake, but it messed up every last one of those vampires that were of the current generation. And it was airborne so stopping it would have been next to impossible unless the remaining vampires, however many were left, had a group of scientists working around the clock to cure it. A reboot would bring the focus back to Blade and his constant vendetta against the vampires and perhaps better explain his relationship to Whistler and how their operation works. That would be a start at least. But perhaps lumping the villains of the three movies into one and detailing how they fit together, or don’t, would be a better idea than dragging out the story one film at a time.

It might be time to mix it up a bit:

So did anyone know about this clip? There was an alternate ending to Blade 3, and while it brought up an interesting and intriguing direction it would also seem like it might be teasing a great idea that could be used to diversify the movie. So all the vampires are dead by the end of Blade 3, except maybe a few that went into hiding, if possible. Now the group goes after werewolves and other monsters it would seem. Why not right? But for the sake of the movie it was cut and never shown. Think though, if werewolves did become a part of the mix, while still keeping the focus on the vampires and Blade? Yes, it does sound a little too much like Underworld in some ways, but there should be a way to do this that would keep the two species apart while making them both dangerous in their own right and capable of harassing Blade just enough so that he has to deal with them both. That could actually open up for an epic standoff between three different species even, vampire vs. daywalker vs. werewolf. That might be able to work.
