Whatever Happened to Lara Flynn Boyle?

Remember Lara Flynn Boyle? She was one of the hottest actresses to walk the red carpet in her time. Some would say that her time isn’t even up and they could be correct if she could just find a way to get back to square one and produce the kind of talent that people came to know her for back in the day. The only impediment seems to be that she either doesn’t want to come back, which doesn’t seem true at all since she’s expressed the desire, or people don’t want to work with her. One can only hope it would be something that lies in between those two statements since it is a bit unfortunate that Boyle did fall in love with her fame a bit too much over the course of her career.

She hasn’t done much since 2014 though the rumor is that she’s always ready to come back. The only problem with that is the fact that it almost seems as though whatever part could be great for her is being taken up by younger and more talented actresses. Don’t get it twisted now, Boyle is a very talented woman and is still in her prime. It would however take some condition to get her back into shape and ready for the big screen again. That being said, the only one that can make the decision to come back is her.

If you want a better idea of how great she was when she was still acting, take a look at the few clips that have been compiled below.

Poltergeist 3 – Donna

Admittedly, this was not the best of the Poltergeist movies since it was following up on a story that had supposedly already been closed. But still Kane manages to come back for Carol Anne, seeking her light as he’s done in the past two movies. This time however he uses the reflections within the many mirrors of the high rise that Carol Anne’s extended family live in to his advantage, taking people into his world through the mirrors and then expelling them as he pleases. When a final showdown between Carol Anne’s aunt Pat and Kane occurs it’s Tangina, the medium from the first movie, that finally challenges Kane and guides him into the light, releasing Carol Anne, Donna, and Pat’s husband, Bruce, into the material world once again. As films go it was pretty creepy and it made you look at mirrors in a different way, but it still wasn’t all that bad. Plus, Boyle’s part was well done as all she had to do was act terrified.

Wayne’s World – Stacy

She went from playing serious and sincere to vapid and ditzy all within the span of a single movie. Stacy truly was the worst kind of ex-girlfriend to have, though it’s not for certain just what kind of actual girlfriend she was since she and Wayne were split before the movie even started. But given his reaction you can kind of tell that she’s not only clingy but very needy as well. The way she follows Wayne around the entire movie, even when she should be worrying about having her own good time, is downright stalker behavior since each and every time she can’t take her eyes off of him. While such people tend to be very demanding when it comes the fact that they simply have to be everywhere their partner is, it’s also a sure sign that if they get angry that bad things could happen.

Men in Black 2 – Serleena

Whether you liked the movie or not the point is that this was a serious downturn for her career since it actually earned her a Razzie award. You know what Razzies are right? They’re the last award that any actor should ever want to get since they’re awarded based on how BAD an actor performed. Now if you take her performances from the past and hold them against this one you’d see that whatever talent she possessed for the craft kind of went bye-bye at this point since honestly it was almost like she phoned this one in. It’s fair to say that the entire movie was kind of ho-hum and suffered from the same fate of a lot of sequels, but at the same time the big, epic villain is usually supposed to be at least a little bit believable. While she did put in a performance it wasn’t exactly something that people were expecting from someone that’s had such great career up to a certain point.

Lara didn’t so much let herself go as she kind of let it slip that she was there to get famous and then coast along on the residuals. She took her craft seriously enough when it was time to get to work but when the end of the day came she kind of just wanted to have fun and not worry about the details. Unfortunately when you want to stay on top the details are kind of important.
