How The Curse of Oak Island Season 5 Can Win Over Disenchanted Fans

The Curse of Oak Island is centered around the search for secret treasure on the titular island. However, it has a serious problem in that there is no reason to believe that there is a secret treasure to be found on Oak Island. In fact, there are plenty of reasons to believe that there isn’t one, seeing as how multiple expeditions launched over the course of multiple decades have turned out nothing but reminders of the presence of their predecessors.

As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that the season finale for The Curse of Oak Island Season 4 was considered disappointing. This is particularly true because the marketing for the TV show tends to build up hype with little concern for the truth whatsoever, with the result that the conclusions bear little resemblance to what has been promised. Unsurprisingly, the people who watch The Curse of Oak Island have been becoming more and more fed up and impatient with this routine, as shown by their less than enthusiastic response following the Season 4 finale.

How Could The Curse of Oak Island Improve?

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a simple change that can be made to reinvigorate The Curse of Oak Island, despite its growing popularityAfter all, it is centered around the search for something that probably does not exist. As a result, while it seems possible that it could continue to drag things out for a while longer by sticking to its current formula, it will not be able to ensure its longevity in the long run without something much more drastic.

One potential solution would be to abandon Oak Island in preference for searching for interesting items in other locations that can be found throughout the world. After all, there are a lot of sites that the real professionals believe to contain the remnants of past people and past civilizations but have never been dug up because of a lack of resources. Although some of these sites such as the Tomb of the First Emperor of China would never be accessible to a TV production of all things, there are others that are just waiting for an influx of resources.

Of course, there is a potential problem in that such sites are not guaranteed to contain what most people would consider to be treasure in the conventional sense. However, it is important to note that archaeological digs can uncover a fair amount of information through even the most innocuous details, as shown by how even the contents of a garbage pit can reveal incredible amounts of information about what the local culture ate, which in turn, means plenty of information about how they lived because of the sorts of foods that they had access to. Granted, making this sort of information interesting to most viewers would need a lot of marketing, but considering what The Curse of Oak Island is already doing in order to get people to continue watching the TV show, it doesn’t seem like such a marketing effort would be that much more resource-intensive.

Then again, digging for real secrets at different locations might be missing the point of The Curse of Oak Island. After all, a lot of people are tuning in because Oak Island has become a self-perpetuating phenomenon by this point in time. The more people who search in the same location over and over, the more people who want to search in the same location over and over. Still, there is a limit to such interest, meaning that even if this is the case, there will come a time when interest in The Curse of Oak Island wanes because even the most fervent believers won’t be able to continue holding out hope in sufficient numbers to keep it worthwhile to make.
