Is There Anyone Out There Defending Harvey Weinstein?

As of right now the only person on Harvey Weinstein’s side is his lawyer Lisa Bloom. The fact that she is proudly working this case on his behalf has raised a good number of eyebrows and has even set her own mother against her as a result. Her mother, Gloria Allred, is also a lawyer and stated firmly that she would never under any circumstances accept Weinstein as a client. So far Bloom has weathered the many questions and disapproval that has been lobbed in her direction and states that she is confident that Harvey is listening to her and that he is “an old dinosaur learning new ways”.

Uh-huh.

I’m pretty sure a T-Rex wouldn’t be able to help itself around a herd of Triceratops even it knew that they could stand up for themselves Mrs. Bloom. The trouble with defending the actions that Weinstein is being accused of is that it continues to set a dangerous precedent in our legal system that allows perpetrators to get away with one act after another by claiming that they simply didn’t know how things are now. In the 1960’s and 70’s, the era in which Weinstein was reportedly growing up or becoming a man, that was simply how things were apparently.

You mean women were just expected to let men do whatever they want? It was okay for a man to tell a woman that she’d be fired if she didn’t sleep with him? What fantasy world did this guy live in where this was okay? And this crack about growing up in that era and thinking this was the way things were done? Did he just fall asleep for the entirety of the 1980’s to the early 2000’s and miss out on the way things are now? Or did he just close his eyes and magically transport himself back the good old days when he could whip it out and force a woman to watch as he pleasured himself into the nearest potted plant?

Wake up Weinstein, the world didn’t change overnight no matter how often people say such thing. If this guy wasn’t paying attention all this time then he’s willfully ignorant and obviously mentally handicapped. If that offends any of the truly handicapped I’m sorry, since those members of our community are still far better than Harvey could possibly be if he lived to be 100 years old. Using an excuse that attempts to negate the last thirty years of development in this country is one of the lamest defenses that has ever been concocted, and there have been some real doozies in the history of the United States.

And to Mrs. Bloom, who’s decided to take his case and defend him. She’s in the right of course, every person in this nation does indeed have the right to a fair trial, but when your client fully admits to what he’s done, at least in some form, then why in the world would you think that he can change?

So yes, there is one person defending Harvey Weinstein that we know about, but if his checks bounce it’s fair to say she might start thinking twice, we hope.

*Actually there are two people who have “defended” Weinstein up to this point.  Initially Donna Karen mentioned that women shouldn’t dress so skimpy but then backed off her comments.  And more recently Lindsay Lohan thinks that people should be standing up for him.  What?  Really?  Come on Lindsay.  We thought you were getting your career back on track.  This isn’t the way to do it.
