WandaVision: Unraveling the Mystery of Wanda’s Fantasy World

Marvel Fans, Prepare for WandaVision

As a Marvel Cinematic Universe aficionado, I can’t help but feel the void left by the absence of new Marvel content this year. However, our patience is about to be rewarded as WandaVision, the first-ever MCU show, is set to premiere next month on Disney+. This intriguing series brings back familiar faces, including a supposedly dead character, and reintroduces some we haven’t seen since 2013 (hello, Darcy from the first two Thor movies!).

WandaVision: A Unique Addition to the MCU

Out of all the upcoming MCU shows on Disney+, WandaVision piques my interest the most. While I’m excited for Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Moon Knight, there’s something peculiar about WandaVision. The 1950’s setting, where Wanda and Vision live as a happily married couple, raises many questions. How is Vision alive after his death in Infinity War? The trailers suggest that Wanda is living through some kind of illusion, implying that someone is manipulating her and giving her the life she always wanted.

Who’s Pulling the Strings?

The burning question is: who could be behind this elaborate scheme? As Marvel expands its roster of villains, I have a few candidates in mind. With more heroes entering the fray, we need different types of villains to challenge them. Loki was a fantastic manipulator-type villain, but now that he’s taking on a more anti-hero role, we need a new cunning manipulator who can operate in the shadows while being immensely powerful.

Mephisto: The Devil of Marvel Comics

My first candidate is Mephisto, the devil of Marvel Comics. He’s been in a Marvel movie before, albeit not as his true character. Mephisto is a master manipulator who tricks people into making deals they wouldn’t normally make. He grants their wishes but takes something from them in return, often twisting their desires into their worst nightmares. Mephisto has tormented characters like Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and even Doctor Doom. It’s entirely plausible that he could be manipulating Wanda into believing Vision is alive again.

Nightmare: A Doctor Strange Villain Connection

However, considering that WandaVision will tie into the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, as confirmed by Kevin Feige, another potential culprit is Nightmare, a major villain to Doctor Strange and Ghost Rider. As a literal demon, Nightmare has the means and abilities to make Wanda believe she’s living a completely different life.

Nightmare’s primary power is to capture a sleeping person’s subconscious, bringing them to his realm and tormenting them however he pleases. He’s essentially the Freddy Krueger of Marvel. This could be what’s happening to Wanda during WandaVision, with the reason for Nightmare’s actions potentially being revealed by the end of the series or in the Doctor Strange sequel. This would lead to Wanda’s partnership with Doctor Strange as they fight Nightmare together.

Marvel Fans, Place Your Bets

So, fellow Marvel fans, who do you think is responsible for Wanda’s fantasy? Mephisto or Nightmare? We’ll find out the answers soon enough, and I, for one, can’t wait to see how this mystery unfolds.
