Young and the Restless fans love Summer, but they also kind of hate her. She’s a young woman with so much going on in her life that she cannot get it together. She’s a Newman by trade, but she’s also Phyllis’ daughter. This means she honestly comes by her manipulative and ugly behavior in a very honest manner. She’s got a lot on her plate, and she does a lot that makes her mother feel less than proud, and we can see that going on from a mile away. She’s not a young woman who likes hearing no, and she does not like it when things do not go her way. She’s a young woman who has a troubled life, and she makes poor decisions. Yet, despite all of that, we kind of love her. Let’s learn some more about her and what might make her tick.
Her Rough History
For the first year of her life, her family had no idea who was the rightful father of this child. She was born in 2006, and it was thought — thanks to a paternity test — that she was an Abbott. She was said to be the child of Jack Abbott, and Phyllis simply did not know the truth. She was having relations with both men around the time she got pregnant, and Sharon was not happy to know that her man — Nick — might be the father of another woman’s child, so she swapped the test results and made it look like Jack had a new baby and Nick was free and clear. It worked for a while, but only for about a year until everyone found out the truth and this baby was given the rightful name she was born with and her father was given a chance to be part of her life.
She’s Kind of a Bully
She was involved in a situation as a teen where she created a cyberbullying plot that would take down the people she loved and cherished the most, which was a huge problem for those around her. She was a young woman who didn’t make good choices most of the time, but she was really looking to gain some information, and it was something that really set her character apart as a woman who was willing to do anything to get her way. But, she is the daughter of Phyllis, which means she’s grown up watching people do anything and everything they can to get what they want and do what they do. She’s not someone who cares how it makes other people feel when she acts out, and that’s one of her greatest downfalls as a person and a character.
She’s Feisty
One thing you have to notice about Summer Newman is that she is one of the feistiest and most amazing young women on the show. She does what she can, she does what she wants, and she works very hard to get things to work in her favor. She’s a woman who doesn’t do much else, but she does make it seem like she’s got a lot going on in her own life. She’s got so much to look forward to and plan for, and she’s seemingly a young woman who has a lot more to offer than she doesn’t. She will do anything she can to get what she wants, and that comes from her mother. Yet, at the same time, she sometimes shows some sympathy for people and their situations.
She acts out because she’s not sure what else to do. Her mother is a mess, her father is a mess, and she’s had a life some might find disturbing. She does these things because she looks for a reason to make her parents pay attention to her. They are always so worried about their own lives and what is going on with them that they rarely have the time to focus on her and what she needs from them. She’s not someone who is happy about that, and this is how she goes about finding her own way out of their bad deeds. She’s a good person, but she’s not mature enough to realize this piece of information just yet.
