If you know about Iron Jawed Angels then it’s possible that you care a great deal about women’s rights and were well aware of the film coming out in 2004. If not don’t feel too bad since it was kind of there and gone despite the large number of nominations and the awards it received for its look back at a time in America when women were marching for the right to vote. It is a piece of history that many look at it many different ways since men have ruled this country for so long that women have felt stifled by the rules and laws that have never seemed to include them in the workings of the nation they give so much to along with everyone else. Mention of this movie is actually pertinent in this time and place since women have taken to opposing a great deal of what government is all about as well, sometimes with good reason and sometimes with what might seem like debatable situations that require more in-depth conversation on both sides. In any case, this movie is one of those that manages to highlight one major, glaring problem in our country that has yet to be fully taken care of, and is one that should be discussed more than it has been throughout the years.
Let’s see what happened to the cast.
Molly Parker
Molly has had a long and successful career since the film and has been quite prominent when it comes to showing off her talents on screen. If you’ll recall she played a rather important role in House of Cards on Netflix and has shown up on the streaming network a couple of times, as she’s been in the new Lost in Space series as well. She can play the role of an antagonist or a protagonist and everything in-between as she’s quite versatile. In fact she even did an awesome job in the Stephen King thriller, 1922.
Vera Farmiga
You might remember Vera Farmiga most from the Conjuring movies since she has been a hit in both of them and has played the part of Lorraine Warren very well. But she’s also been in movies such as Running Scared and The Departed and shown that she can do wonderful things without having to do battle with demons and supernatural forces. In many ways she’s the kind of woman that can take her look and her talent and dress it up in a number of different ways to achieve the affect that’s desired.
Julia Ormond
Julia Ormond is what you could honestly call old school and she has the resume to prove it since she was present in Legends of the Fall among many other projects. She’s also been in Sabrina, First Knight, and several other movies that have made good use of her talents and she’s still active on the scene today. Along with the others on this list she’s received nominations for many of her roles and has even won a handful of accolades that prove that she’s not just someone that’s hung around for a long time.
Frances O’Connor
For as skilled and talented as she is you don’t tend to hear a lot of about Frances as she’s the kind of person that seems very present when she’s on screen but almost unseen when she’s off it. Her films such as Bedazzled and the Conjuring 2 are great since she’s been front and center and played very convincing roles. She’s even won several awards and been nominated for many more. It just seems that she kind of takes a step back when she’s not starring in a film.
Anjelica Huston
Anjelica is another that can claim to be old school since she’s been around for quite some time and has proven with every appearance that she’s one of the absolute best female actors in Hollywood and has been for a good number of years. Her performances in the Addams Family movies, Ever After, and virtually everything she’s done have been absolutely spellbinding and has captured the attention and admiration of many. Ask just about anyone who she is and you’ll likely get an affirmation that they’ve watched at least one of her movies.
Hillary Swank
At one point and time Hilary Swank was on top of the world since she was in movies such as Freedom Writers, Boys Don’t Cry, and of course Million Dollar Baby. But somehow and some way she fell out of the spotlight and hasn’t been seen as much moving forward. She is still working to be honest, but the level of fame she enjoyed for a while has kind of dimmed and, sad to say, it might be a while before she’s back on top again. She’s won a slew of awards, so there’s nothing to say she can’t get back to where she was.
It was an important movie then and it might be worth revisiting now.
