Murder, corporation theft, disputes between bird lovers and child abduction. That pretty much sums up what ‘Murder Most Fowl’was all about. I have to say, though, that up until Castle and Beckett accidentally discovered that they were dealing with kidnapping case, I wasn’t all that excited about the episode. Not that it was bad, because it really wasn’t. The whole bird dispute and the BHS guy’s interrogation were really, really funny, but until that point that was all there seemed to be to this episode: a few good one-liners.
Now, I don’t think Castle is capable of delivering a cringe-worthy episode at all, but with twenty minutes in, I confess I was slightly bored. That changed the second they found out their victim had witnessed a little boy being taken and that was why he had died; the kidnapper shot him. From that point on, they found themselves in a race against time to bring the boy back to his family alive. The suspense was sky high and I absolutely loved to see Captain Montgomery take action and actually go out on the field to do the dirty work.
I mentioned it last week that I love the fact that the secondary characters are getting their chance to shine this season and this episode was no different. It’s great to see Ryan, Esposito and Captain Montgomery standing on their own feet and not being there merely to provide a few one-liners and do leg work whenever Beckett tells them to. It was also great to see an emphasis on the hierarchy at the precinct, when Beckett disagrees with a course of action the Captain takes, but he shoots her down and she has to accept her task and do what she was ordered to do.
All in all, great episode. ‘3XK’remains the best episode of the season so far, but ‘Murder Most Fowl’is in the top 3. Definitely A+.

I absolutely agree with your entire assessment. The first 20 minutes or so, I was thinking this one is not one of my favorites. Then they developed that photo and everything changed!
