Whatever Happened to the Cast of “Everybody Loves Raymond?”

Everybody Loves Raymond was a great show that lasted for a while and was endearing to just about everyone on some level. The characters were fun and believable, most times, and the plot never changed too much so that people felt the disconnect that occurs with some shows that try to revamp their entire main idea. For the most part it was all about the Barone’s and how they managed to get through one day after another while looking out for one another and trying to stand each other. Let’s be honest, this was not what you would call an easy family to belong to since the parents were simply overbearing sometimes and the brother was, for lack of a better word, kind of odd. But it all worked out for their family since that’s what happens in many families, you become each other’s worst enemies but you’re always there for each other regardless.

So what happened to the cast?

Peter Boyle – Frank Barone

How you remember Peter Boyle kind of depends on what decade you grew up in since his film career stretched back to the 60s. He was one of the many actors that could be funny or just downright scary, or even completely sarcastic and somewhere in-between. As Frank though he was absolutely great since he said pretty much anything he wanted and didn’t bother to be pleasant all the time. He was the grandpa that you liked but didn’t want to spend TOO much time with. Unfortunately Peter passed away in 2006 from heart disease. He’s been missed ever since.

Brad Garrett – Robert Barone

Brad Garrett has made the reputation of being the big funny man that can be a real jerk or one of those guys with a heart of gold that gets mistaken for someone that might cave your face in. But throughout everything he’s been a great actor. He starred in the Vin Diesel film The Pacifier and has a had a few voice roles such as the hook-handed thug in Tangled and Gusteau in Ratatouille. He’s also doing the voice of Eyore in the film detailing the classic Winnie the Pooh story, Christopher Robin.

Doris Roberts – Marie Barone

Doris is one of the many classic actresses that has been seen as the wholesome mom character in many ways, but in the film Grandma’s Boy she kind of got to step in and out of that role as she played the grandma that liked taking care of her grandson, was quite proper, and didn’t like swearing, but then turned the corner and became the cool, pot-drinking grandma that allowed bikers and all sorts of people into her house for a party. During her time on the show she became one of the fan favorites no matter that she was kind of a nosy individual and started many of the fights that went on. She was, as many people saw her, the matriarch in more than one way, and she’s been missed since her passing in 2016.

Patricia Heaton – Debra Barone

As far as fame goes there are two shows that have really made Patricia who she is, and one of them is Everybody Loves Raymond. The other was The Middle where she played Frankie Heck. Her life was a lot different on The Middle than it was in Everybody Love Raymond since her family wasn’t as well off, but the comedy was every bit as good despite being a little grittier and not always as wholesome since it was a story meant to depict a family that had to work continuously to provide for three kids that were anything but run of the mill and were constantly testing their parents in an effort to see how much they could get away with. But while she’s done plenty with her career her place has always seemed to be on TV where she really shines.

Ray Romano – Ray Barone

If you can believe it Everybody Loves Raymond was only the second gig he had on TV and from there everything just kind of felt a little ‘meh’ afterwards since his only other really big role that allowed him the kind of fame you’d expect was his time spent as Manny in Ice Age. Sometimes it seems that stars really only get to latch onto so many opportunities and these will be what they’re known by. In this case a couple of the stars of the show were subjected to only a few spots of fame in their entire careers, though to be honest Ray and the rest of the cast have been great wherever they go. Simply seeing them pop up was a treat and being able to see them doing something other than their normal bit was pretty cool.

While a couple of the cast members have passed away people can still remember the good times this show brought, and recall just how funny it really was.
