The Top Five “The Good Place” Episodes from Season 2

The television series “The Good Place” is about a young woman who died and in the afterlife, is mistaken for somebody else. Eleanor Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell lived a rough life and would have otherwise gone to the “other place,” but the identity mix-up gave her a second chance and her soul is taken to the utopian place that is intended to be a reward. When she realizes the situation, it’s a struggle for her to hide her morally flawed character. Bell leads the cast including Ted Danson as Michael, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, William Jackcson Harper and D’Arcy Carden. In the second season, she and her contemporaries discover that their existence in “heaven” is an experiment and a ruse. The former humans are subjected to memory wipes and reboots and Danson along with Marc Evan Jackson who plays his boss Shawn, begin the experiment over. Michael isn’t happy with his demon subjects and their behaviors force him to join forces with the humans. In the second season, the focus is on a continuation of the search for the authentic “good place” and mandatory ethics classes for the humans. Here are the top five episodes for Season 2.

“The Good Place” Season 2 Episode 1

The season opener titled “Everything is Great” starts out with a reboot in the “bad place.” Eleanor, Tahani, Jason and Chidi have all had their memories erased by Michael, but Eleanor had a surprise up her sleeve. Knowing in advance what Michael was going to do, she left a clue that would help her figure out what was going on after the reboot. The episode focuses on the note that Eleanor wrote instructing her to find Chidi. He is having issues himself as he’s faced with the choice of two possible soul mates. When Eleanor finds him, he’s too busy with his own affairs so to speak to have any desire to help her. Michael is the meantime is busy concocting plans to have Eleanor disgrace herself at a party, but it doesn’t work out the way he had planned. It’s Tahini that gets drunk at the bash and causes an uproar. As the episode moves along, Chidi finds Eleanor’s note and starts to figure out that they know one another. Eleanor comes to the realization that they’re not in the “good place” after all, and Michael, realizing his failure pulls yet another reboot on the humans, erasing their memories and returns them to the “good place,” hiding what he had done with his failed experiment from Shawn because he made it clear that there would be no third try.

“The Good Place” Season 2 Episode 3

This episode aired on Oct 5, 2017, titled “Team Cockroach. Michael decides to take a new approach to the situation. Eleanor, Jason, Tahani and Chidi have issues to work out as the have trouble coming to a unanimous decision among themselves. Michael attempts to get the four to sign on for his new plan for a neighborhood reboot. He wants them to act ignorant as he leaves their memories intact.

“The Good Place” Season 2 Episode 4

This episode titled “Existential Crisis aired Oct 12, 2017. Tahani puts on a dinner party that is designed to impress the others. Things don’t go the way that she had planned, so Eleanor and Jason help her out. Meanwhile Chidi discovers that Michael’s immortality won’t allow him to engage with human ethics and he confronts Michael about the possibility of his “retirement” which would end his existence.

“The Good Place” Season 2 Episode 5

This episode that aired October 19, 2017 is titled, “The Trolley Problem.” Chidi instructs thee group about thee thought experiment trolley problem that is a real thing and can be found in most philosophy or ethics text books. Chidi is taking a theoretical approach with the humans, but Michael is aware that the way the afterlife scores points is inconsistent with Chidi’s current methods. There is a real threat that the neighborhood will collapse in this episode.

“The Good Place” Season 2 Episode 13

The season finale was shown on February 1, 2018, titled “Somewhere Else.” Michael points out that there is corruption in the system of postmortem self improvement. This episode focuses on the ongoing moral debate and why humans do the things that they do. Janet reveals to Jason that she is in love with him and we see Chidi plant a kiss on Eleanor in what is possibly the most outstanding episode of the season.
