Michael Bolton lip synching isn’t exactly what you want to see all the time but when it’s for Lip Sync battle then anything goes. One of the last songs you could have ever expected him to lip sync to though was Coolio’s song Gangsta’s Paradise. It’s just too awesome really since this show has a way of showcasing those that you would never think to see singing certain songs performing in a way that’s just too cool to miss. Michael Bolton has had a reputation for being one of the greatest singers in the history of music, depending on who you ask, but he’s always stuck to the more sentimental tunes until now.
As he gets older it seems like he’s branching out a lot more and showing that he’s got more range than people initially thought. So yeah, he’s not singing the song but he’s playing up to it pretty well since as a lip sync it’s not meant to be great, just entertaining. In his advancing years Bolton is really starting to show a more humorous side that might have been there all along but is really starting to come out now. And to be honest it’s great since you might never have imagined it before this moment. Lip Sync Battle is the kind of show you don’t really watch to see greatness, but instead you watch it to see great actors and musicians come on and just get wild and a little freaky sometimes in order to have a good time and enjoy the reaction from the crowd. Michael Bolton is just one of the many that have come on the show to a thundering applause that they’ve earned quite honestly.
Gangsta’s Paradise was of course the hit song that was featured on Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeiffer and one of the few songs that made Coolio a famous rapper. The other was Fantastic Voyage but if anyone’s done that yet I really haven’t seen. This song however was one of those that as a child of the 90’s a lot of us can likely remember singing to a few times since it came out in 1995, right when a lot of us were either going off to college or making our way through high school. It was one of those songs that you knew was popular because it was banking on something that was very real and happening in the school system of the day but was still so sensationalized that it was popular because it was part of a movie and came from a rapper that everyone liked. The message within the song was felt by many on a few different levels but the song itself was considered one of the best because of the sound and the lyrics.
It was the 90’s, if a gangsta rap came out that was kickin’ and had a great message to it then it got a lot of play. If it was attached to a hit movie then it got even more.
