Have you ever sat back and wondered what might happen if the villains from Star Wars were just a bit smarter and didn’t have to act out such dramatic plot points? The people at Dorkly have certainly been thinking about it and to be honest it’s about time someone did. Just think about it, we probably wouldn’t have the same movie, in fact we might have more time for development and a more realistic presentation if the First Order would wake up and realize just why the Resistance is so hard to take down. The game-playing, the manipulation, and the guessing of where people are going to be and what they’re doing is a lot of work.
Why go through all that stress? Bad guys are suppose to be bad even if they think they’re not bad, get it? Being ruthless means that you’ll attack at any given moment without worrying about things like honor and dignity. If it’s survival of the First Order versus survival of the Resistance it’d be best to just take them out as soon as possible when given the chance rather than toy with them like a lazy cat pawing at a mouse. Hux could have blown the Resistance ships to atoms at any time, but he had to toy with them, picking them off one by one instead of pulling the same move that tore the flagship in half near the end of the movie. Snoke, for all the power he had, wanted to play games when he could have just ordered Kylo to bring Rey to him front and center so that he could snuff her out.
Phasma could have snuffed out both Finn and Rose before ever having to get in a fight with Finn, thereby saving herself a lot of trouble, and Kylo seems to have misplaced his Knights of Ren, unless there’s a story that explains where the heck they went. Then there’s the idea of the crimson praetorians guarding Snoke. Armor is great and all but if it hinders you in any way it’s not good for anything but blind protection, which isn’t all that great really. Bad guys might lose in the movies because they always make dumb decisions.
The good guys don’t win all the time simply because they won’t employ the same tactics until it’s just about too late and they’re almost dead. How easy would it have been for Luke to shut down Kylo and go after Snoke? It might not be the Jedi way but at the same time dying for no purpose was never the Jedi way either. And Rey, before she even became Luke’s pupil there were things that she could have done differently. And we’ve seen in the past that Leia could be ruthless, so did old age sap all of that out of her?
I love the story of Star Wars, but there are some truly boneheaded decisions that have been made on either side that likely wouldn’t have been made in real life, where practicality tends to conflict with honor and common sense quite often.
