A Surprising Combination: The Golden Girls and Clue
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something comes along that makes you question everything. Case in point: a Clue game based on The Golden Girls. Yes, you read that right. The classic TV show has been transformed into a board game, and it’s as delightfully absurd as you’d expect. What’s even more baffling is that it’s rated for ages eight and up. I can’t help but wonder how many eight-year-olds are familiar with The Golden Girls, let alone eager to play a game about them.
From TV Show to Board Game: A Cheesecake Mystery
It’s not surprising that The Golden Girls would inspire a wide array of merchandise, but the fact that it was made into a popular game that initially had nothing to do with the show is quite unexpected. The main objective of the game is to figure out who ate the last piece of cheesecake in the fridge. That’s it. That’s the entire premise. Can you imagine spending an hour or more trying to deduce who devoured the final slice of dessert?
I can almost hear the four women bickering over it, with Rose being the only one not fully aware of why everyone is so upset. Blanche would likely be offended to even be considered as the culprit, while Dorothy would probably be trying to be the peacekeeper, and Sophia would be the one interrogating everyone. The chaos caused by one missing piece of cheesecake would be so monumental on the show that they’d probably devote an entire episode to it and then reference it a few times in later episodes. It seems like a silly game to create, but perhaps it will appeal to those who are nostalgic about the show.
A Classic Game with a Golden Girls Twist
The game is set up just like a regular round of Clue, complete with game pieces, character cards, tokens, and so on. The rules are pretty much the same, and the idea is similar as well. But cheesecake? Really?
The game board looks like someone took a photograph of the inside of the house and filled it in tile by tile.
You can play as any one of the four Golden Girls or choose the anonymous character pieces. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the concept of the game, but if someone enjoys it, who am I to judge?
I’m not entirely sure what the tokens would be used for in this game since you’re looking for who ate the cheesecake and what they ate it with. The last time I checked, eating cheesecake with a shoe or a purse wasn’t that easy.
So, there you have it: another bizarre and unexpected addition to the world of board games. The Golden Girls Clue game may not be for everyone, but it’s certainly a conversation starter. And who knows? It might just be the perfect nostalgic gift for that die-hard Golden Girls fan in your life.
