Much as I love Game of Thrones just like next person, and I do, it’s getting a little out of hand when Isaac Hempstead, the actor who plays Brandon Stark, can’t simply go to school without being inundated with questions about the show. Twitter has been in an uproar about his attending the University of Birmingham as a freshman, and really for no other reason than that many students will get a chance to possibly quiz the “Three-Eyed Raven”. I have words for a lot of them that might not be popular but should at least be one voice among many sending a message that needs to be listened to.
Stop it.
Just stop and think before you go out of your way and far away from your classrooms to stop and quiz Isaac about the show as so many have already claimed they wish to do on Twitter. Contractually he’s not allowed to talk about the show and what’s going on, nor is he allowed to infer anything that might ruin it for anyone else. Keep in mind that Isaac is an actor and not the actual character, and he’s also a person attempting to earn a useful education for later on in life.
Celebrities are considered almost like royalty in many parts of the world and while some soak it in and allow the fame to go straight to their heads, many more are willing to take it in stride and still attempt to live a normal life. So by all means allow Isaac to go about his business and do what he feels he needs to do in order to get ahead in life. Asking him over and over about the show and what’s to come is bound to like hitting your head against a brick wall because honestly and truly they likely have not even begun production as of yet.
The actors don’t even get the scripts right away most times so as to keep the surprise, so asking him again and again what’s going to happen isn’t just brainless, it’s pointless. People go absolutely nuts when a celebrity is among them and in truth it’s a little embarrassing. Yes they’re famous, yes they’re often a part of your favorite movies or shows, but they are still human folks. Get over yourselves and calm down before you hyperventilate.
Personally it’d be great to meet all of our favorite stars, but if the young man is going for an education he’s going to be there to learn, not to sign autographs all day, not to talk about the show all day, and not to bring his costars by for a visit based on a hundred or more peoples’ request. Let him be a regular person and attend classes as he wants so that he might get a chance to advance his knowledge and make himself a little more valuable to the world in general.
Keep in mind that Game of Thrones is going to be entering into its last season as of next year. Isaac, not Bran, will still be around when the show’s over, and whatever knowledge he’s acquired by then should come in handy to help him maintain his value in the industry or wherever he chooses to go.
