The sitcom cameo has become a bit of an American institution. Whether it’s Hilary Clinton in stoner comedy Broad City or Brad Pitt in that classic episode of Friends, we love it when our favorite stars in pop up in unexpected places. Fortunately, 2017 has got off to a great start as far as celebrity appearances go. They’ve been cute, raunchy, hilarious, and even a little bit emotional. We’ve seen old faces surprise new audiences and laugh out loud moments from some of the funniest actors around.
So, let’s take a look at the best sitcom cameos of 2017 (so far). Don’t forget that you can check out clips of each one to see what you’ve been missing.
Chris Pratt in ‘Mom’
This has to be one of the most adorable cameos of the year, because it features a real life couple. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have been together for ten years and both have successful acting careers. Even though they did manage to appear in Movie 43 together, in 2013, the two haven’t had much opportunity to get together onscreen.
Fortunately, it all changed recently when Pratt turned up on ‘Mom,’ the sitcom that Anna Faris has been starring in for the last four years. He plays a horse riding instructor and the two end up getting (very) close in the stables. Ironically, however, he turns out to be majorly clingy and starts talking about marriage right away, which freaks Anna Faris’ character (Christy) out.

Black Cindy in ‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
Fans of Orange is the New Black will be delighted to hear that fan favorite Cindy Hayes (also known as Black Cindy) popped up in ‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ this year. Well, technically, Kimmy showed up in her world. The two collide after Kimmy is arrested and bused to prison. Three guesses which prison she ends up at.
Yes, that’s right, Lichfield. While Cindy doesn’t hang around for long, it’s a nice crossover moment which fans of both shows are sure to love. If you watch the show, keep an eye out as Kimmy gets acquainted with her new environment. It’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment, but there’s an interesting Easter egg surrounding the name Cindy too. Check it out online.

Mackenzie Phillips in ‘One Day at a Time’
This is one for the older viewers now. In 1975, a sitcom called One Day at a Time had audiences entranced. It focused on the trials, tribulations, and hilarious moments shared by a single mother and her two teenage daughters. The original show was very funny but also deeply moving and it left a big impression even after it ended in 1984.
Now, it is back. Netflix has brought the show to the small screen once again. The original creator (who is now 94 years old) is on board as an advisor and the first episode garnered rave reviews. It was particularly special to see Mackenzie Phillips return in a cameo role, because she played rebellious teenager Julie in the original sitcom.

Nathan Fillion in ‘Santa Clarita Diet’
Santa Clarita Diet has to be one of the most original comedies of the last decade. It stars Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore as a married couple who are presented with a new challenge when the wife becomes a flesh eating zombie. People are loving this show right now, despite its zany presence and the big cameo in the pilot didn’t go unnoticed.
The one and only Nathan Fillion showed up as a clueless estate agent Gary West. He comes to a nasty end after confusing Sheila’s lust for blood with another types of lust altogether. The predicament leads to a surprisingly moving scene in which Joel (the husband) decides he’s going to stick with his wife through thick and thin (and blood and guts).

The Robot Pizza in ‘Silicon Valley’
This isn’t technically a celebrity appearance at all, but we thought it was far too cool to miss out. HBO sitcom Silicon Valley made television history this year when it became the first show ever to feature a robotically made pizza. You can read that last sentence back again if you need to. Robots are making our pizzas now. We live in an incredible world.
The Silicon Valley crew certainly think so because they have this chance at product placement to innovative tech company Zume. It is located in Mountain View California and it utilizes robotic equipment in the kitchen. Check out some pictures online, because they’re really amazing. Again, the robot pizza is a blink and you’ll miss it moment, but it’s epically cool.
