Science Officially Says Picking Your Nose and Eating It Is Good For You

I knew it!  I knew it all along.  I always knew that when I would pick those dry boogers and discard them into my mouth (without anyone looking) that it was good for me.  And now I have science to finally back me up. According to a recent study published in the journal of the American Society for Microbiology, scientists at Harvard and MIT suggest eating your own boogers is good for you (plus your teeth by preventing bacteria from sticking to them), and parents shouldn’t discourage their children from doing it.

The findings even suggest snot could defend against respiratory infections, stomach ulcers and even HIV. Austrian lung specialist Professor Friedrich Bischinger, who also contributed to the study, said research show people who pick their noses are healthy, happier and probably better in tune with their bodies.

  • “Eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body’s immune system,” he said.
  • “Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system, the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected.
  • “And when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.”

So to everyone who ever thought I was gross, take that!
