You may or may not recall that last year there was a report that a Golden Girls-Themed cafe would be opening in New York. It’s name was to be the Rue La Rue cafe and it was to be based off of the 80s hit show The Golden Girls. The cafe was to feature numerous items from the estate of co-star Rue McClanahan. Now, the cafe–owned and operated by the late actress’ friend, Michael LaRue–is finally ready to open, allowing the world to bask in all its Blanche-and-Dorothy glory.
Technically the cafe is still in a testing period but we’re sure that after all the dust settles it’ll be a very popular NYC hangout. There’s even a bathroom modeled after the one in Dorothy Zbornak’s Miami home. While no one can confirm if “Thank you for being a friend” will be playing round the clock or if patrons will get the early bird special, people seem to be pretty excited.
Of course I’ve spoken to no one about this but given the show just launched on Hulu and the reception it got on there? I think it’s safe to say people will want to make the trip to Rue la Rue. I know I will. Now the theme song is firmly entrenched in my brain.
