Given that today is Valentine’s day, perhaps James Mangold, director of solo Wolverine film Logan, is feeling generous and sentimental. He released a gorgeous IMAX poster for the film. It’s hard to describe but I get a very old school Western feel with this thing. It seems like something that would have come out of the 70s. The image depicts The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) with his claws bared, as Professor X (Patrick Steward) and X-23 (Dafne Keen) stand with him. The villainous Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) and his Reavers can also be seen below:
Logan is getting its premiere this week at the Berlin Film Festival so early reviews should start coming in. The hype for this movie has been over the top as is every hype for anything involving Wolverine. But I will say this. Trailers have been amazing. The story seems pretty awesome. The fact that they went the Deadpool route and gave this thing an R-rating seems promising. I’m skeptical as always because whenever a “blockbuster” is hyped this much it always seems to disappoint in the theater.
At this point with Marvel it seems to be hit or miss. It never misses on action but often times I find myself not caring about the characters. I feel an instant connection to Logan simply because you empathize with an aging loner. There’s just something gritty about these trailers that gets me optimistic. Still though, I fear the best we’ll actually see is in the trailers themselves.
Let’s hope not.
