Legends of Tomorrow: Off to the 80’s and Ray Channels Inner Snart

Legends of Tomorrow

Ah, the 80’s. Love the music, didn’t love the fashion. Then again, we’re not here to talk about music and clothes in this week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow. Team Legends go back to 1987 to stop Damien Darhk from stopping the signing of the treaty that ended the Cold War. Also, Dr. Stein also encounters his younger self once again.

The hour began with Damien Darhk channeling his version of Don Johnson in Miami Vice. Way to get all cliche on me, show! Darhk got whatever it is that he wanted from the goons and they, in turn, gave him a golden ax. I was intrigued by the little history lesson from Darhk as he explained that the ceremonial Roman weapon is called a fasces, which then derived into the term fascism. Reverse Flash then turned up after killing off the goons and the agents from the DEA. Eobard tells Darhk that he wants to work together to which Darhk refused at first, but changed his mind at the end of the episode, which we’ll get to later.

While the team was at the White House, we see the younger Dr. Stein stepping foot inside. The present-day Dr. Stein said that he never set foot in the White House so how did the younger version of him get access? Also, why did younger Stein think that Darhk would be able to help him get higher on the scientific ladder? No good can come out of interacting with Darhk, and I was right. The younger Stein got himself (as well as future Stein) stabbed. Towards the end of the episode, present-day Stein told his younger self to focus on making their wife happy and their marriage alive rather than focusing on making scientific breakthroughs.

It was also interesting to see Ray try to be like Leonard Snart. Nobody can pull off that tone of voice that Wentworth Miller has perfected for Captain Cold. I do give the guy credit for trying. In the end, Mick stopped trying to make Ray into another version of Snart and told him to be himself. “You’re Ray Palmer; you can science your way out of anything.” Wise words, Heatwave, wise words.

I loved the scene between Sara and Darhk. The way that she told him of his impending fate and the way that his face paled makes me want to stand up and applaud. That and when Sara swiped the thing that the KGB gave Darhk at Georgetown Park. You go, Captain Lance!

Now, let’s talk more about Eobard and Darhk. The latter wants to change his fate after what Sara had told him. The former is all too happy to oblige. Eobard then told Darhk to sit in a glass pod while he created a time portal. Wonder where they’re planning to go? Any ideas? I’m also surprised that Amaya got together with Hourman. All that talk about not dating someone you work with is completely moot. Oh, and it was great seeing Obsidian again. That and to learn that Nate’s grandfather was a great singer. Cool time seismograph, by the way, Nate!
