We’re still about six months away from seeing the live-action re-imagining of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. However, as Disney readies to release a special Blu-Ray version of the original 1991 animated film later this month to celebrate the movie’s 25th anniversary, the studio has released an all-new sneak peek at next year’s highly anticipated adaptation of the classic, and it features our first glimpse of Emma Watson and Dan Stevens acting opposite of each other as Belle and the Beast.
Even though the clip of Watson and Stevens only comes from a table read, so we therefore don’t see either of them in costume or makeup as their respective characters, the few lines of dialogue they deliver make it pretty clear that they were the right actors to be chosen for these roles. The small scene featured in the sneak peek appears to be one of many back-and-forth conversations between Belle and the Beast, as she examines what he’s reading, claiming that the book, no matter how much he protests, still has a bit of romance in it.
Additionally, director Bill Condon, who is helming the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast, discusses why he and Disney are attempting to re-imagine a story that so many consider to be perfect. What is the reason behind it? Why now?
“When something is so perfect, why get near it?” Condon says in the video below. “The answer is technology has caught up to the ideas that were introduced in that movie.”
Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17, 2017. Watch the new sneak peek below.
