As a result, many people are more on edge, and these issues can quickly become police matters. This was exactly what TikTok user and wedding photographer Justinna Patience experienced when her neighbors called the police on her for supposedly spying on them with her camera.

Claiming privacy on one’s property involves layout and visibility
Seeing a neighbor pointing a camera at your property can be unsettling. The natural reaction is to wonder whether your privacy is at risk.
However, privacy claims involving cameras depend on several factors. According to law professor and attorney Brian Farkas, the house’s layout and openness matter.
“The easier it is for the public to see into the space in question, the less the expectation of privacy. A camera pointed from a neighbor’s house toward your front yard, for example, would likely not be seen as an issue,” Farkas wrote.
According to Justinna, her neighbors went out of their way to take a snapshot of her camera by going into her driveway. But in doing so, they violated their own complaint.
As Farkas explains, invasion of privacy is something that a person does intentionally.
“A neighbor’s camera pointed at your property that happens to pick up a corner of it might not make for a strong invasion of privacy case. But if the camera is clearly trained at your living room window or open-air shower, it starts to look more like an intentional invasion of your right to privacy.”
Fortunately for Justinna, the police officers quickly dismissed her neighbor’s absurd claims by using their own argument against them. While it may be highly unlikely, hopefully it will be a learning experience for them.
