Born and raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Richard Stephen Sambora grew up in a household with Polish roots, his father, Adam C. Sambora, working as a factory foreman and his mother, Joan Sienila, as a secretary.
His musical journey began at age six with the accordion, later transitioning to guitar at 12, inspired by Jimi Hendrix. He graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1977 and briefly attended Kean University before dedicating himself to music.
