Scam calls are a part of our lives and the way we deal with them could be from blocking their number to wasting their time or just being downright funny.

I talk Xhosa as my second language, which is an African language. I either play along either them or start talking to them in Xhosa. Of course they can’t understand it and hang up

A restaurant I worked in would frequently get calls from the electric company claiming there are payment issues. Just hanging up got boring so I’d just reply with completely unrelated things like a story about a cute thing my cat did, ask if I should order pizza or Chinese food tonight and then hang up. One time when he threatened to disconnect service I pretended to cry. One of the last times he called asking to speak to my boss I said “No one has seen ‘boss name’ for weeks!”
“When will she be back?”
“I don’t know. She was last seen in Albuquerque, but then the trail went cold. The police thinks she heading to a country without extradition treaties since she’s the prime suspect in string of jewelry heists. If you hear from her can you please call me? Her husband is worried sick and just wants her to come home!” He said something like ‘this is serious, we will cut your power, blah blah’. It would have been easier to just block the number or report the scam, but me and my boss thought this way was funnier.

The scam callers we get are 90% to solve “broadband problems in our area”.
They claim to be from our TV/broadband provider, Sky.
I always say, “I’m so glad you called, I would love to improve our connection speed. I just need to know one thing to make sure you’re legit: what is my name? If they don’t know, I’m like: I don’t want to tell you how to run your business but you really need to work on your scam. For only £29/m I can help you…
They usually hang up immediately.
If they press further, or actually know my name (

I say “hold on a minute”..then see how long they’ll actually hold, before hanging up.
