She’s been called one of the sexiest women alive and had accolades heaped upon her throughout her career, and many would agree that Halle Berry has deserved every one of them. She’s done some things and said a few things in her career that people might not agree with but for the most part she’s been kept in show business largely because of her talent and because, let’s face it, a lot of celebrities get away with a great deal. But that being said she’s not the worst of the bunch, not even close. If anything more things seem to happen to her on and off the set than are caused by her, which is a nice way of saying that she might be accident-prone but she’s not a habitual troublemaker. Instead she’s a very elegant, classy woman that has been seen to be human on occasion when it comes to her judgement and her ability to find herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Here are a few things about Halle you might not have known.
10. She got in a bit of trouble with a hit and run in 2000.
Remember what I just said about getting in trouble? In 2000 she was in a car accident and she left the scene, which is a big no-no that many people know about. She did go to the hospital to be treated for her own injuries, but she was slapped with 3 years probation, a substantial fine, and community service for leaving the accident.
9. Halle is a type 1 diabetic.
If you know anything about diabetes then you know that it occurs when there’s not enough insulin in the body and can be a very serious condition. Halle has type 1, which is typically found during adolescence.
8. She turned down the role of Annie in Speed.
You might want to say or think that this could have helped her career but in all likelihood it could have gone the other way since her career has done just fine with everything she’s done so far, and Sandra Bullock kind of needed the lift.
7. She was a busy person in high school.
Halle was part of the honor society, editor of the school newspaper, class president, and she was crowned the prom queen. So yes, she’s been ambitious for a while and knows how to go after what she wants, and get it.
6. She suffered partial hearing loss back in the 1990s.
It was just in one ear thankfully, but there’s not a lot of other explanation to it other than she lost part of her hearing in the one ear. Losing any of your hearing or even having some impediment to your hearing though is kind of rough.
5. On the set of Die Another Day she was injured during shooting.
This wasn’t the only thing that happened on the set. She almost choked on a date at one point as well until Pierce Brosnan managed to save her. It kind of seems as though Halle has a serious case of being accident prone at times.
4. Her arm was broken on the set of Gothika.
This was an accident that probably left Robert Downey Jr. feeling pretty bad for a while since he was supposed to grab and twist her arm for a scene but twisted a little too hard and ended up breaking her arm.
3. She accidentally smashed her head into the set lights during the filming of Catwoman.
At this point you get the feeling that Halle is just mildly cursed when it comes to being injured on set since she’s suffered an injury on so many movies throughout her career. None of them have been her fault it seems but at the same time one would think that she would learn to be a little more aware of her surroundings so that injuries would become less of a possibility. But then again that’s very easy to say without having to go through the motions.
2. Halle was nominated for a Razzie for her part in Catwoman.
This doesn’t come as a huge surprise since what was supposed to be something great and even exciting turned into something absolutely horrible and not even worth watching as many upon many people agree. In fact the film was deemed one of the worst representations of a superhero that’s ever been put out, and this comes from even those that might have given it the benefit of the doubt.
1. She was four months pregnant when she finished shooting on X-Men: Days of Future Past.
There’s probably a very good reason why she wasn’t so prominent in this film and this would kind of argue that her pregnancy was it. Her presence in this movie was very limited as opposed to the other X-Men movies and it would seem that this is the reason why.
She’s been established as one of the best for a while now, even if some people are struggling to see why.
