Going by what Tatiana Hullender from ScreenRant has to say it would seem that Supergirl season 5 is going to be about unification and standing together, but it’s also going to feature a few very noticeable changes. One of those of course would be her outfit, which has been given an upgrade since it’s no longer a shirt and skirt with a cape combo, but has been made to look more like Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman suit, complete with pants and a new cape this time. If you really want to notice the new hairstyle and resolute look that the actress is being given then so be it, but the uniform change seems to be one of the biggest things to come along since it indicates that it’s out with the old and in with the new. Some people might actually be confused by this but in a way it does make more sense considering that it seems to give Supergirl a more combat-ready look and seems to be aimed less at satisfying the teenage fantasy that’s been around for so long and making it known that she is a serious superhero.
Maggie Dela Paz from ComingSoon adds that the show will see Melissa Benoist actually direct an episode for her directorial debut as well, as she’ll be taking over for episode 17. This could be interesting since while she’s certainly not the first individual to do this and won’t be the last it’s always fun to see just how an individual actor can contribute to their show behind the camera as well as in front. It definitely grants them a different perspective that could help with their acting later on and could even set them up when they’re ready to move on from acting and sit in the big chair for a while. It’ll be fun to see just how Melissa does in her first time directing and whether or not she’s got the ability to make it all happen in the same way that she’s been directed to do for so long, especially with the added changes already taking place. There’s also a new villain coming that Supergirl and her team will have to deal with, but there’s not a lot of detail on that just yet.
According to John Saavedra and Joseph Baxter of Den of Geek! the show will be premiering on Oct. 6th and will be sharing Sundays with Batwoman, which could possibly make for a fun night of viewing since Batwoman is another show that some people can’t wait to see. While the idea that both shows might take a very feminist lean is bothering some it’s yet to be seen if things are going to be seen as troublesome or enlightening as many would prefer to call it. These days there tends to be a lot of discussion and accusatory statements as one side seems intent on stating that the changes aren’t how the comics were written and thereby aren’t bound to be embraced by a lot of fans, while others might claim that the changes are absolutely needed if women are to get the kind f representation they need and want in pop culture. It’s enough to make your head spin really and enough to make someone bow out of watching any of them entirely. Believe it or not, Batwoman is a few years older than Supergirl when it comes to who was created first. The fact however is that Supergirl has managed to get a lot more attention throughout the years for various reasons, not the least of which is her relation to Superman, who is DC’s golden standard.
Fans have waited a long time for their favorite heroes and heroines to finally make it to the screen and so far it would seem that a lot of people have been satisfied and could continue to be satisfied so long as season 5 continues to dish out the kind of material they’ve come to expect and of course Batwoman comes along and starts adding her two cents to things. A lot of people would happily admit that the boys club that has been seen as the superhero world needs to be shaken up a bit by introducing some very powerful and popular female characters that have been waiting in the wings for a while, and so far Supergirl is doing just that since she’s come in and done quite a bit to shake up the DC universe. Thankfully she brings with her an entirely new band of people from those seeking to help her out to villains that are seeking to take her down. This makes for a very interesting shift when it comes to television, and it would appear that things are only going to keep changing as they go along. People can either accept it or stop watching, but you can guess which they’ll do.
