Suzanne Collins Returns with New Hunger Games Prequel ‘Sunrise on Reaping’

Suzanne Collins, the celebrated author, is set to return to the dystopian world of Panem with a new novel. Titled Sunrise on Reaping, this highly anticipated book will be released on March 18, 2025.

Inspired by an 18th-century Scottish philosopher and the modern scourge of misinformation, Collins is plunging back into the post-apocalyptic realm that has fascinated millions. Drawing influence from the ideas of David Hume, Collins stated, With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’

The novel will center around the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, taking place 24 years before the original The Hunger Games novel and 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Speaking on her creative process, Collins emphasized how political themes played a significant role: The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative.
