SELMA, Ala. — Selma is set to roll out the red carpet for its hometown hero, Asher HaVon, this Saturday, June 22. Fresh off his win on NBC’s The Voice Season 25, HaVon will be honored with a celebration that kicks off at 2 p.m. and culminates in a grand parade.
The festivities start with a meet and greet at Reflections Coffee Shop from 2-4 p.m. Fans will have the unique opportunity to chat with Asher, snap pictures, and get one personal item signed by the star. Reflecting on his journey, HaVon has shared how much winning means to him: It means everything. You know, giving the community that I’m a part of a voice, a face, a sound, I think it’s a really big deal for sure.
Attendees can enjoy a wine and cheese social while getting to know the artist behind that winning voice. Reba McEntire, who coached HaVon to victory, praised him during the show’s finale: HaVon deserved to win and was what this show’s all about…Finding talent that is so raw.
HaVon’s gratitude to McEntire was palpable when he said, Thank you for giving me such a safe place to be my authentic self.
Parade through Selma streets
The celebration continues at 6 p.m. with a parade commencing from Selma City Hall. The parade route will take revelers from Broad Street to the newly constructed Riverfront Amphitheater. James Benderson highlighted recent updates: The roof and the frame for the stage-house area for the amphitheater are now in place.
Upon reaching the amphitheater, attendees will be greeted by lively music and an array of food trucks ready to serve delectable treats. In Benderson’s words: We’re going to add you know some other park features such as your pavilions, your playgrounds and things like that that people expect to see to see in the park when they go there.
