The Best Uses of Duran Duran Music in Movies or TV

It’s pretty cool how a lot of these older bands are still touring and performing today, even if their membership has changed a bit. Duran Duran managed to get in on the 2nd British Invasion as one of the top bands back in the day when MTV was making a big push for English-born groups. They managed to put up several songs in the Billboard Top 100 and were able to sell around 100 million records worldwide. Like a lot of new wave and synth pop bands they were kind of acquired taste. For many people you either liked or you didn’t, but it’s very obvious that a great number of people really, REALLY liked them.

Here’s how their music managed to influence pop culture throughout the decades.

5. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno-All You Need Is Now

Jay Leno was always known for having some of the best talent visit his show which is a part of why he was so popular for so long. Musical guests on late night talk shows are something of a treat since otherwise it would likely just be the host talking to celebrities all night without much of a break in between. The musical guest is usually someone that lot of people like and can fully enjoy.

4. Layer Cake-Ordinary World

So to break it down this is just an odd, odd movie. It managed to receive critical acclaim and was actually viewed by more people than is easy to believe, but the soundtrack must have managed to contribute to a good part of its fame, otherwise it just seems incredibly complicated without much payout. In this scene you can hear the song in the background but it’s not a main portion of the movie.

3. American Wedding-Reflex

It’s a brief inclusion but it’s in there. If you listen to the whole piece you’ll pick it out easily as Stifler and the big man go at it in an all-out dance battle. Believe it or not a lot of people would be able to pinpoint every band within the mix that was used for the dance off. Duran Duran’s Reflex just made it a little better since it added a nice segue into another sequence of moves.

2. Free Enterprise-Planet Earth

Did you ever get the feeling that William Shatner just can’t let go of his fame no matter how low he has to stoop? It would seem more likely that he was asked by the producers of the film to agree to his part but chances are good that he wouldn’t have balked at it either. The idea of two middle-aged men holding onto their love for fantasy and all things nerdy isn’t that far fetched really.

1. Old School-Hungry Like The Wolf

If such lessons as these really exist then humanity has been in a serious free fall for a long, long time. The mere fact that anyone would bother to instruct another person on how to do this is simply too funny, and in many ways kind of sad.

Duran Duran is still performing and still managing to influence pop culture, which is something their fans are all too happy to support.
