Could Jeremy Renner’s character William Brandt be back in action for Mission: Impossible? In a fresh interview with Collider, Renner reflects on his time in the franchise and what led him to depart.
I was supposed to do more with them. I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot. It requires a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn’t gonna work out then,

Renner Open to Returning as Brandt
Now, nearly 10 years later, Renner reveals he is open to reprising his role as Brandt: Maybe now that my daughter is older that could happen. I’d always jump into a Mission: Impossible anytime and back into Brandt. It’s great.
At the end of Rogue Nation, Brandt decided to retire from his career in the Impossible Mission Force, but unlike some characters, he left alive, making a return even more likely.
The Future of Mission: Impossible
The untitled eighth Mission: Impossible film is currently slated for 2025. While it was initially thought to be the last of the franchise, Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed the past two films, stated last year that future installments are on the table.
Post-Accident Recovery
Renner’s departure from the franchise coincides with life-altering events like his snow plow accident in January 2023, which left him with blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. Renner frequently used social media to keep fans updated on his recovery process and extensive physical therapy.
Treatment and Therapy Journey
Renner mentioned how diverse his treatments were: I have been exploring EVERY type of therapy since Jan 14th. Everyday, countless hours of physical therapy, peptide injections, IV drips and pushes, stem cell and exosomes, red light / IR therapy, hyperbaric chamber 2.0 atmospheres, cold plunge, and the list goes on and on. But My greatest therapy has been my mind and the will to be here and push to recover and be better, Be exceptional… I feel it’s my duty to do so.
A New Chapter at Mayor of Kingstown
Renner made a triumphant return in Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown, where he faces intensified challenges as Mike in the third season premiere on June 2.
The third season sees Mike dealing with new threats from a Russian mob infiltrator disrupting peace within and outside prison walls.
The third season consists of ten episodes releasing every Sunday morning, with its finale titled “Comeuppance” scheduled for August 4.
