Is Daisy Jones and the Six Going as Good as the Book?

Reese Witherspoon is bringing all the best books to a screen near us. While no movie or show is as good as the book, Reese Witherspoon works magic when she produces the film. She is responsible for some of our favorite books-turned-to-movies and television shows as of late, and we have even more to look forward to. If you thought the movie version of Where the Crawdads Sing was well done – and it was – you’re likely anxiously awaiting the release of Daisy Jones and the Six. The amazing book by Taylor Jenkins Reid was stellar, and Witherspoon is executive producing a miniseries based on the book – and we cannot wait for it. If you want to know everything about it, here’s what we can tell you so far. Is Daisy Jones and the Six as good as the book?

There is No Release Date

The most commonly asked question about the book’s miniseries is when we can watch it. We don’t know, though. We know that the series was cast, filmed, and wrapped as of spring 2022. No release date is out at this moment. We only know about watching it because it airs on Amazon Prime Video.

Who is Daisy Jones?

Ironically, she is not the main character of this book or series. She’s one of the main characters, but it is 70s musician Billy Dunne that the book follows. He is the frontman of a band called The Six, and Daisy Jones is the woman who comes – very unwelcome – into his life and changes it for the worse and the better. She is the center of his universe without actually being part of his personal life, and it’s Daisy Jones is always the star of the show…even when she is not the star of the show.

In the film, the character of 70s superstar Daisy Jones is played by Riley Keough. If you think her name is familiar, it is. She is Elvis Presley’s granddaughter. She is the perfect person for the role of Daisy, too. She’s an avid fan of books, she knows music, and she knows acting. She will bring this character to life in a way we can already imagine.

Who is Billy Dunne?

Billy Dunne is the main character in the book and the series. Written in the form of an interview with the different people in Billy Dunne’s life – we cannot give anything else away by saying more, but if you read the book, you know what we mean. He’s the entire book. Casting this character meant finding a man with charisma and personality who is strong and mentally capable and can portray the myriad of emotions that Billy Dunne showcases. Sam Claflin is the man for the job. He is, perhaps, most famous for his role in Peaky Blinders and as Finnick in The Hunger Games. He’s exactly who we imagine Billy Dunne to be.

Who is Camilla Dunne?

Without giving too much away, Camilla Dunne is the real hero of this story. Depending on your personal beliefs, she is either the most muscular woman in the world or the stupidest. Honestly, there is no in-between when it comes to Dunne. She makes personal choices that most women would not be able to make. She knowingly puts herself into a situation where she is not number one – and she knows it. However, her strength is calm, and her selflessness can only be described as a gift. The perfect woman for the job is Camila Morrone. She just so happens to be the real-life girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Who is the Rest of the Cast?

All equally important, but none more critical than Daisy, Billy, and Camilla, are the rest of the band and the characters who play a side role. Will Harrison is Graham – brother to Billy Dunne and lifelong best friend. Sebastian Chacon is Warren, the man who is head over heels in love with another band member. Eddie, who is never happy and constantly feels like his voice is not heard, is played by Josh Whitehouse. Karen, the only female band member until Daisy Jones, is played by none other than Suki Waterhouse. She’s familiar with music being a musician, and she works as Karen in our minds. Finally, the lovely Nabiyah Be plays the minor but essential character Simone. She’s a huge superstar who isn’t around much because of her successful career, but she is the only real friend Daisy Jones ever had.

Is it Worth It?

We don’t know. We haven’t seen it. It isn’t easy to imagine the book made into a movie, but we have some ideas about how they might do it. It’s in an interview sequence, but it often flashes back into a different time to tell a different story, which is how we imagine it’s being shot. We have a feeling that while it likely won’t beat the book – nothing ever does – it’ll be so good.Reese Witherspoon
