Highly Recommended Documentary: “Klitschko”

Given Wladimir Klitschko is taking on Anthony Joshua tonight in what’s expected to be a solid heavyweight fight, I wanted to look back on what I believe to be one of the better documentaries I’ve ever seen.  It’s aptly named “Klitschko” and takes a look at who else but the Klitschko brothers Wladimir and Vitali.   It’s a documentary encompassing the lives of world heavyweight boxing champions.   The first time in history two brothers have shared all the heavyweight world titles, this film explores their humble beginnings in the Ukraine to their rise to stardom and domination of heavyweight prize fighting.

I don’t want to give away too much of the entire story but these guys had it rough growing up.   Their family literally had to walk out of their “home” to get water each day when these guys were just tots.   What’s also fascinating about their tale is the fact that each of them are extremely bright.  In fact you’ll see them playing chess at various times throughout the movie.  And when I say bright I mean genius level which is why it’s even more odd that they would go into boxing as a profession.

Their size is an obvious factor but clearly money and influence had to play into their decision making.  Still though, I don’t think you’ll ever see a boxing or even athlete story more interesting than theirs.  I highly recommend giving it a go.  Check out the trailer for the documentary below:
