AUSTIN, Texas – The highly anticipated second season of the popular television show “1923,” starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, is set to film in Austin this summer. This American western drama, which serves as a prequel to the acclaimed series “Yellowstone,” promises significant economic benefits for the city.
ATX Studios Becomes Production Hub
The production will use ATX Studios as its base of operations, with filming scheduled from July through September. This decision follows a vote at Thursday’s city council meeting, where members approved a Creative Content Incentive Program agreement worth $82,500 with King Street Productions Inc.
Economic Impact on Austin
The filming of “1923” is projected to infuse over $51 million into the local economy, creating an estimated 200 direct jobs and generating more than 150 indirect jobs. According to city documents, the production plans to hire around 100 Austinites for crew positions and another 100 locals as cast and extras.

At the premiere of the Paramount+ series in December 2022, both Ford and Mirren expressed their excitement about being involved in the show once again. As Helen Mirren noted, ‘They’ve been together for 50 years. When you do spend 50 [years together], especially in the circumstances that Cara and Jacob are living their lives, it becomes, at its best, an absolute equal partnership,’ she says. ‘I love the fact that it’s what happens after, ‘and they lived happily ever after.’

‘Both of us committed to it without really reading any scripts. We didn’t really know what we were signing up for – the specifics of what we were signing up for. We had trust in Taylor’s [Sheridan] extraordinary abilities as a writer and we took a leap of faith.’
