Five Things You Didn’t Know about the Show Ancient Aliens

Ancient Aliens… I have to admit it, as much as I think the theories the show presents are mostly nonsense I can’t help but find it entertaining, maybe even a bit mesmerizing. Many nights I’ve caught myself completely enthralled in back to back episodes of the show. Love it or hate it, it’s pretty addictive, which is why it’s one of the most popular and longest running shows on the History Channel. But although the show is ultra popular there’s still a lot of things fans don’t know about the Ancient Aliens TV series.

Here are 5 of them…

1. It wasn’t originally intended to be a television series.

Ancient Aliens made its TV debut on March 8th, 2009. Originally slated to only be a History Channel TV special, the network quickly realized the show had some real staying power and began filming future episodes. Season one premiered in April the following year.

2. The show is draped in controversy.

Labeled as pseudoscience and pseudohistory by scientist, archeologist, and historians Ancient Aliens has dealt with it’s fair share of backlash and controversy. It even has a whole South Park episode dedicated to poking fun at the show for lacking real evidence.

3. The production company behind the show also produced some other popular TV shows.

Ancient Aliens is produced by Prometheus Entertainment. They are also behind many other popular television shows including Kendra on Top, Food Paradise, and The Girls Next Door. Clearly, they know how to create TV shows that hook in viewers.

4. The premise of the show has been adapted to a video game.

Available on both Android and iPhone “Ancient Aliens: The Game” is an adventure game where you play as an Alien Hybrid. You abduct primitive humans, alter their DNA, and help them establish modern civilization all while you exploit Earth’s mineral wealth and oversee the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza. I’ve played the game, and I have to admit, it’s pretty addictive, it’s also free. Check out the gameplay below to see what I’m talking about.

5. An entire documentary has been created to debunk the show.

Created by director and writer Chris White the 3 hour documentary “Ancient Aliens Debunked” attempts to refute the theories presented by the History Channel series. Basically, it’s a point by point critique of the “ancient Astronaut theory.” The goal of Ancient Aliens Debunked is clearly to say that Ancient Aliens and the theory the people on the show put forth are half-truths, misinformation, and outright lies in many cases

Conclusion

Whether you love it or whether you hate it, if you came across this article you probably watch it. Ancient Aliens has been on the air for nearly 10 years now, and it’s viewership hasn’t declined. I’m not 100% sure if the theories presented on the show are fact or fiction, but one thing is for sure, the producers have created a television show that hooks viewers in and keeps them coming back for more. And in television, that’s all that really matters… Right?
