Some people don’t like it when other bands cover the tracks of another. Metallica though has mastered a bevy of songs so well that a lot of folks don’t mind, and in fact even the original artists have been impressed with their efforts. It all depends on the individual as to whether they’ll be impressed or insulted by the effort put forth. Plus, this is Metallica we’re talking about, so unless an artist or the fans have any serious problems with them, this is something of a dream come true for a lot of people. The sound that Metallica produces is so impressive that having them jam to someone else’s song is a treat for a lot of people, including the original artist. You never know, it might actually give the creator a few ideas moving forward too.
Plus you’ve got to admit that it’s fun to watch.
5. Iron Man-Black Sabbath
You know you’ve got to be on the ball when you’re taking over the song of a band like Black Sabbath, especially with Ozzy Osbourne in attendance and watching intently. Thankfully Metallica has the kind of hard-hitting sound that can make a track like Iron Man sound even tougher and beefier with a mild upgrade that keeps the integrity of the song but gives it a bigger presence.
4. Am I Evil-Diamondhead
A lot of people happened to think that this track was originally one of Metallica’s since it’s been on their track list for so long. But they ran this cover so long ago that people just wound up accepting it as their creation and didn’t think twice to ask where it had come from. Thankfully they tend to always give credit where credit is due, most of the time, and didn’t shy away from it this time.
3. Turn The Page-Bob Seger
If you were ever a Bob Seger fan then you knew this song from the moment it showed up on Metallica’s list. The original version is great and easy to listen to, but Metallica’s version is just a little heavier. Of course the difference between Seger and Metallica is pretty big so there’s no doubt that while the original is a lot softer Metallica’s was going to come with a punch.
2. Stone Cold Crazy-Queen
I get an image of Encino Man in my head when I hear this song since it was playing when Stony and Link went to Six Flags theme park during the movie. The track hit its crescendo just as they were going over the massive rise to a humongous rollercoaster and the massive drop that awaited them. There was no doubt about who originated this song.
1. Tuesday’s Gone-Lynyrd Skynyrd
There’s not a lot of difference between the original and the cover to be honest. Metallica stayed very faithful to this song and did an awesome job. Considering that this is one of my favorite songs of all time I was very impressed by their restraint and felt a newfound level of respect for them when I heard this.
Metallica is awesome, period.
