Dr. Jennifer Ashton couldn’t hold back her emotions as she officially announced her departure from ABC News, marking the end of a 13-year tenure. The longtime GMA 3 co-host revealed she will be shifting her focus to her new women’s wellness venture, Ajenda.
During an episode of The View, Dr. Jen Ashton discussed her feelings about leaving ABC and her plans for the future:
“It has been an honor to be at ABC and help cover the biggest health issues in the country and world over the past 13 years…My coworkers have become more than friends; they’ve become family.”
While Dr. Ashton was visibly emotional during the tribute paid to her by fellow hosts, two key figures were notably absent from the farewell segment. This gap heightened the poignancy of her departure.
The transition period has brought mixed emotions for both Dr. Ashton and her fans. Having joined the network in 2012 and becoming a co-host on GMA 3 in March 2020, she had become a fixture in many households, particularly during significant crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As one of the preeminent medical journalists of our time – or as we call her here at ABC – ‘America’s favorite doctor,’ Dr. Ashton has immeasurably contributed to ABC News as America’s #1 news network,” Debra O’Connell, President of News Group and Networks for Disney Entertainment, praised.
Amidst her tearful goodbye, Dr. Ashton assured viewers that her new focus would remain within her expertise:
“I am excited about the next stage and really focusing on what I’m board certified in,” she explained.
This statement aligns with her upcoming endeavors with Ajenda, which includes distributing a free newsletter focusing on women’s health information and communication, set to share expert insights on subjects ranging from menopause to weight loss.
