In an interview, Duchovny acknowledged the challenges involved in adapting his own novel, Bucky F*cking Dent, into a screenplay. He shared, I first wrote it as a screenplay, then as a novel. Then I rewrote the screenplay after I wrote the novel. So, it was a long process of figuring out that story.
