Meanwhile, Castle is dealing with another crisis at home. Alexis is in love for the first time, but Castle is not supposed to know because she hasn’t told him. Martha says Alexis has told her only the night before and she didn’t even say the boy’s name. That morning, Alexis asked Castle if her friend Ashley could come over and Castle, being the cool dad that he is, said it was okay. So when he got home later that night, he thinks he’ll pull a prank on his daughter by entering the apartment with an antique gun in his hand. But when he opens the door, Alexis isn’t alone. In fact, she is making out with a boy on the couch. Alexis is shocked that he would come home holding a gun and the poor boy begs him not to shoot. Alexis introduces her father to Ashley, her boyfriend, and pulls Castle aside asking for an explanation. The complete role reversal here is so incredibly funny and you just feel so bad for the poor boy, who looks really scared of Castle.
The next morning, Ryan finds a receipt among Goldstein’s things and it says ‘coffee with Troy Kenworth’on it. Troy’s father was one of the unhappy investors who lost millions of dollars because of Goldstein. Except Kenworth lost everything and ended up killing himself just a couple of months ago. His son has been charged with several bar fights after his father’s death. They bring him in, but Troy says Daniel was the one who straightened him out and even got him a job. Beckett and Castle go to where Troy works and it just happens to be on 82nd street, between Lex and 3rd.
When they get there, they’re a little surprised to find a private steampunk society, which is basically a place where people go and pretend they’re in the 19th century — hence the antique clothes and weaponry. Who do they find there but Goldstein’s boss, who had claimed he knew nothing about it. He tries to run, but Esposito catches him and he ends up confessing (although he says it was an accident). The whole thing was just to impress a girl they were fighting over. According to Daniel, the antique guns didn’t have an accurate precision at aiming so they would be safe. Castle and Beckett test the guns and find that Daniel was right.
Castle goes home and finds Alexis eager to talk to him all about being in love. She blabs on about not knowing if she was really in love and that she gets all these fuzzy feelings and butterflies in her stomach when she sees Ashley and it’s all just really sweet. Castle is a little taken aback, but just takes it in stride. Beckett comes over and says that she thinks there was a third shooter that night and that’s who the real killer is.
They go back to the park to investigate and find fibers on a tree that just happen to match Troy Kenworth’s steampunk outfit. They go after him and he confesses almost immediately. Back at the precinct, Esposito and Ryan play a prank on Castle and Beckett and it’s hilarious. The moment is interrupted by Beckett’s new super hot boyfriend, Josh. She introduces him to everyone, Castle looks jealous and everyone looks surprised.
Guess she’s been holding out on them.
