In a significant crackdown on illicit drugs, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have seized an alarming amount of fentanyl along the US-Mexico border, with Arizona leading the charge. This has been the most active region for fentanyl seizures over the past eight months.
According to Michael Humphries, director of CBP’s operations, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized more than 5 million fentanyl pills at the Nogales port of entry in southern Arizona throughout March
. This port alone plays a critical role in monitoring the illegal flow of these potent drugs.
The epidemic is not confined to border points alone. State police have also been actively involved in fentanyl raids across various locations. The data suggest that a collaborative effort among law enforcement agencies is essential for tackling this issue.
The intense focus on Arizona follows reports indicating that seizures in this state surpass those at any other entry point along the US-Mexico border. These efforts underscore the ongoing battle against the spread of dangerous substances within the United States.
The significant volume—reported as 7 million pills and 3,700 pounds of powder seized statewide—highlights the severe scale of this ongoing crisis. Continued surveillance and stringent controls at multiple ports and borders are crucial to curb this influx.
