Usually CSI:NY follows the same formula each week; someone gets killed and the team led by Gary Sinise’s Mac Taylor do their forensic best to find the kller. This episode, and part of the last episode “Scared Stiff”, broke from the mold and centered around a 15 year old unsolved murder. The twist is the victim was the sister of the chief of police played by guest star John Larroquette. John Larroquette was really outstanding in these two espisodes and I would not be suprised if he is up for guest star Emmy next year. In both episodes you can tell he knows more than he is letting on. So it is not suprising when Mac starts to investigate the chief’s past. Yet, you also can’t quite believe he would kill his own sister. Things get even stickier for the chief when the woman who stole his deceased sister’s identity is also murdered. That seems to be awfully convenient and leads Mac and the audience back to questioning the chief’s innocence again. I do not want to give the ending away to people who have not seen these episodes, but I will admit the reveal and the reasoning behind it left me needing tissues. I have to say sometimes it is good to see a show like this break from routine and focus more on character development and human nature.
