Season 2 of Mr. Robot left us with more than just questions. The cyber-crime drama has been fighting to keep its viewers interested, and finally with the release of the latest trailer for season 3, they might get a chance. After being shot at the end of last season, Rami Malek’s character Elliot Alderson wakes up in the trailer, confused and not able to remember exactly what had happened. We hear Martin Wallstrom’s character’s voice Tyrell in the background, explaining to somebody that Elliott made him shoot. “He kept saying I wasn’t real!” Tyrell said.

It comes to no surprise that Elliot is still alive after getting shot at the close of last season, after all, he’s still got a lot of cyber terrorism to do. We see Elliott trying to work on figuring out how the Five-Nine hacks affected the entire financial system, and we also heard talks of phase 2. We suspect that we’ll know by the end of season 3’s first episode whether phase 2 was actually successful or not.
The rest of the trailer showed bits and pieces from scenes that are not necessarily that easy to connect. We hear Elliot saying cryptic things in the background and talking about world catastrophes, being different people, and that something big could be happening. While the entire trailer left us scratching our heads with even more confused questions as to the direction the show is going.
We also see a lot of Mr. Robot as played by Christian Slater freaking out on his crew about something that we probably weren’t supposed to get. We’re left with scenes of military personnel and what looks like barricades and possibly rioting. This is probably and indication that things have indeed gotten completely out of control, and that Mr. Robot’s underground crew might be partly to blame. We see E-Corp’s boss Phillip Price, as played by Michael Cristofer, confirm this with his words, “World catastrophes like this, they occur because men like me allow them.” Sounds about right and sounds like Elliott will have to figure something out to protect himself in the next season.
The trailer closes with Elliott almost in tears as he stares up at something we didn’t get a look at. We can only speculate that it’s something terrible and something that will drive Elliott to do something that’s either completely ingenious or completely dangerous. Mr. Robot is a show about a simple programmer that was recruited to work for an underground hacking network set to destroy an evil multinational organization.
Mr. Robot is set to return to USA Network on October 11. With season 3, the network promises to answer many questions that were left unanswered from the previous season. As far as USA latest trailer is concerned, we might have been left with even more questions than answers. We’ll just have to wait until the season premiere to really see how helpful Mr. Robot will be. Creator Sam Esmail brings back the actors mentioned above as well as Grace Gummer, Carly Chaikin, and Portia Doubleday for more cybercrimes and terrorist fighting.
