Actor Matt Lucas has made quite a name for himself in Hollywood, but he honestly admits that life has not always been as laid back and free-flowing as it is currently. As you can imagine, Matt grew up with ideas and dreams of becoming an actor, but his initial desire was not to be in film, but on stage. In his younger years, Lucas believed that serious actors perform on stage, not behind a camera. Well, it is obvious that he has expanded his horizon and belief system as far as acting goes. Believe it or not, aspiring to be an actor, as serious one to boot, was not the only concern of Matt Lucas as a child. It turns out that he faced some unique challenges that actually prepared him for life as an actor and more.

As will most celebrities, there is always more than what meets the eye, with many of the hidden facts being more intriguing that what is revealed. Following are five things that you did not know about Matt Lucas.

1. He Lost His Hair at Age Six

Matt was only 6-years-old when he first lost his hair, a condition associated with Alopecia. Can you imagine entering the first grade having to explain to the class why you are bald at the age of six? This early misfortune would actually turn out to benefit Matt over the years. Because of the fact that Matt did not have hair, he believed that it cemented his image in the minds of the people he met, making sure that after only one meeting, they would never forget him. It was also this condition that drove Matt to want to do more, he did not want to only be known for his condition.

2. He Wanted to Be A Painter and Decorator

It turns out that Matt wanted to express his creativity in a number of ways that extended beyond being an actor. He admits that entertained strong desires to be a painter and decorator. He said that at the time, it seemed like a pretty cool job. He revealed that even as a kid, he was already focused on making his mark on the world. It was immensely important to him to be relevant, and accomplish something of significance.

3. The Early School Years Were Rough

It seems that Matt had more than the loss of his hair to deal with when it came to school. By his own admission, he was not considered a winner, by any stretch, in elementary school. In addition to being bald, his father had been to prison and his parents got a divorce, and to top it all off, he became aware that he was attracted to males. This was a lot to process at such an early age. Ironically, it was on the stage where Matt was able to escape it all and find a level of comfort that he enjoys still to this day.

4. He Still Watches the Muppets

Who hasn’t watched the Muppets as a growing child. Almost any person you talk to will have a favorite character that this still hold dear, but Matt admits that he still watches the show religiously. Matt says that there is still a little boy on the inside of him that absolutely loves the Muppets and other fun things that kids do. In fact, he admitted that he had recently eaten some monster munch.

5. His Parents Demanded That He Attend a University

As with many parents who have children who are looking to be entertainers, Matt’s parents agreed to allow him to pursue acting as long as he went to college, which he did. However, he would eventually end up reneging on the agreement after his second year in college – primarily due to the fact that he was receiving a consistent barrage of offers to appear on TV shows, and well, as they say, the rest is history.
