Tunnel to Towers Steps In

In a heartwarming gesture, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the family home of the fallen trooper. This organization aims to support the families of fallen first responders by alleviating financial burdens, ensuring they can stay in their homes without worrying about mortgage payments.

Rachel Maynard, Sgt. Maynard’s widow, expressed her gratitude: Tunnels to Towers has had a huge impact on our family. Now that I am a single parent, the foundation’s support will make it possible for me to work less and still be involved in my children’s activities and school functions.

A Legacy of Aiding Heroes

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established after the events of September 11, 2001. The foundation honors Stephen Siller, a firefighter who heroically gave his life while saving others during the 9/11 attacks. Foundations like Tunnel to Towers not only pay off mortgages but also build specially adapted smart homes for veterans and first responders who have been severely injured.

Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of Tunnel to Towers highlighted the importance of their mission: Every day families of our brave first responders watch as their loved ones leave, not knowing if they will make it home at the end of the day. When tragedy strikes and a hero like Sgt. Maynard does not come home, Tunnels to Towers will ensure his family can stay in the home they shared without the burden of a mortgage.

The Community Remembers

Cory Maynard’s dedication and passion for serving his community left an indelible mark on those he touched. His widow Rachel noted that his desire to make a positive impact drove him to become a state trooper: Cory wanted to become a state trooper to be a bigger part of his community and state. He wanted to make a difference and help people.

Maynard is survived by Rachel and their two children, Zoe and Finnegan. Thanks to fundraising efforts like the GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $42,000 and initiatives from organizations like Tunnel to Towers, his family can now navigate these challenging times with some financial relief.
