British folk horror Starve Acre, from writer/director Daniel Kokotajlo, gets an eerie new trailer and poster fresh off its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
The film, based on the novel by Andrew Michael Hurley, stars Morfydd Clark (Best known for Saint Maud) and Matt Smith (Notable as the Doctor Who alum). Here’s a brief synopsis: A couple, living in 1970s Yorkshire, grapple with the psychological horror after their son starts acting strangely, allowing dark forces into their home.

The trailer teases elements typical for folk horror like screeching violins, creepy kids, a sinister looking farm animal, and expansive overhead nature shots. Clark herself emphasized the eerie family dynamics stating I found the relationship with Juliet and her sister very horrifying because I have a sister so the idea of families being torn apart by a malevolent presence or old trauma is very disturbing.
Since its dazzling debut at the BFI London Film Festival, Starve Acre has garnered much praise, quickly securing UK distribution through BFI Distribution and US distribution via Brainstorm Media. With these accolades under its belt, audiences are eagerly awaiting its July 26 release.
Morfydd Clark has been enjoying the limelight with significant roles in titles such as The Personal History of David Copperfield, BBC’s His Dark Materials, and a notable performance in Armando Iannucci’s Croc-Horror Flick Crawl.
