Marion Cotillard has officially joined the cast of The Morning Show for its upcoming fourth season, with Apple TV+ announcing her involvement on June 5, 2024. Cotillard will share the screen with series stars Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, as well as notable cast members like Billy Crudup and Jon Hamm.
Joining an Ensemble Cast
Cotillard will take on the role of Celine Dumont, described as a savvy operator from a storied European family. This new addition marks one of the relatively few TV roles for the actress, who won an Academy Award for her performance in La Vie En Rose (2008) and received another nomination in 2015 for Two Days, One Night. Her storied film career includes stand-out roles in Midnight in Paris, The Dark Knight Rises, and Inception.
An Evolving Narrative
The third season of The Morning Show, which aired from September to November 2023, set a high bar. Season 3 saw newcomer Jon Hamm playing a significant role. Reese Witherspoon excitedly elaborated on Hamm’s character: He is a very complex character…Billy could eat a scene like I’ve never seen somebody eat a scene, and Hamm gets to come in and give him a great foil.
A Powerful Team of Women
Both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon not only star in the series but also serve as executive producers through their respective companies—Echo Films and Hello Sunshine. Mimi Leder is another critical figure behind the scenes, serving as both a director and executive producer under her deal with Apple TV+. Charlotte Stoudt brings her leadership as showrunner:
I’ve been very lucky because I’ve been on a lot of female-heavy shows…Just having six or seven women on a Zoom going like, ‘Alright, how are we going to fix this?’ It’s productive and it’s also just fun.
The Broader Themes and Impact
The Morning Show, loosely based on Brian Stelter’s non-fiction book Top of the Morning, delves into the professional and personal challenges faced by media giants’ employees. As Jennifer Aniston points out:
Through the prism of those under-slept, over-adrenalized people in front of and behind the camera, we take an honest look at the complex relationships between women and men in the workplace…
A Look Ahead to Season 4
The inclusion of Marion Cotillard promises fresh dynamics to this already intriguing ensemble cast that features talents like Mark Duplass, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee, Julianna Margulies, and Nicole Beharie. Fans eagerly await how Celine Dumont will weave into the intricate fabric of UBA’s morning show environment.
