Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited sci-fi epic Megalopolis finally found a distributor after its divisive premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Lionsgate has secured the rights to distribute the film theatrically in both the U.S. and Canada.
Release Date Revealed
Lionsgate plans to release Megalopolis on September 27, 2024. The film will be shown in IMAX, initially sharing screenings with Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar 10th Anniversary release and later conceding screens to Joker: Folie à Deux, debuting on October 4.

The deal has high hopes pinned on it. An Epic Cast
The film boasts a star-studded cast led by Adam Driver as an architect aiming to redesign a futuristic New York into a sustainable utopia. He faces opposition from Giancarlo Esposito, playing a corrupt mayor. Key roles include Aubrey Plaza as journalist Wow Platinum, and Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Laurence Fishburne, and Jason Schwartzman in supporting roles.

Aubrey Plaza shed light on the situation surrounding Megalopolis. Addressing speculation, she remarked, I thought it was kind of funny. I would defend Francis all day long, but he doesn’t need my defense… Drum up some more attention for the movie.

Lionsgate has contributed significantly to Coppola’s previous projects, including releasing Apocalypse Now Final Cut, The Conversation, and The Cotton Club Encore. They will also manage home entertainment distribution for Megalopolis.
