Five Things You Didn’t Know About the Porg from “Star Wars”

There are still quite a few “Star Wars” fans who don’t really know what a Porg is. They are among the latest editions to the “Star Wars” Universe. Although nothing can come close to C3PO or R2D2, the Porg is one of the cutest little creatures that we’ve seen in the Franchise so far. Here are five things that you didn’t know about the Porg.

1. It represents a more realistic depiction of creature

Porgs look more like something the general public is familiar with. They are very similar to a penguin in size. they are from the planet Ahch-To. This is the place where Luke Skywalker is found by Rey at the close of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Porgs have feet like a duck with the same orange color, huge eyes which make them adorable and mouths that feature sharp teeth. They’re definitely alien, but they do resemble something that is less other worldly than what we’ve seen previously.

2. The Porg was inspired by a bird

The creator of the Porg drew his inspiration from the puffins who flock together on islands in massive numbers. They become a part of the area that they inhabit and so Johnson created the Porg character to have similar behaviors and traits.

3. We’ll see our first Porg in “The Last Jedi” when it premieres in theaters in 2017

Knowing that there is going to be a new creature in the next installment of the “Star Wars” franchise is kind of exciting. It gives us something to look forward to. Granted, not all new additions have been successful, but from what we’ve learned about the Porg, it might just add a new dimension to the film. These creatures will come to life through the aid of some hands on manual puppetry as well as the addition of digital effects.

4. A Children’s book featuring Porgs is in the making

Lucasfilm leaked information on the new kids’ book that will feature Chewbacca as well as the Porgs. The Lucasfilm/Disney enterprise is planning to release the book that will help with the promotion of the film with the hope of boosting sales when it is released on DVD and Blu-ray for sale to the public. There will also be toy figures of the Porg for sale. We have the feeling that there is going to be a huge new line of “Star Wars” promotional items available in stores after the premiere of the movie. It will come just in time for the holiday season so it should be a good success.

5. Baby Porgs are called Porglets

This sounds a lot like the relationship between a pig and a piglet so the creators of the Porg haven’t taken it too far out of the realm that we’re familiar with. These little creatures have the ability to fly as well as to build nests to raise their young. They seem to be a combination of a puffin, a penguin and a cat with sharp pointy teeth and a mouth that could inflict some serious damage if you provoke them.
