Here’s What Carlivati Has to Say About the Return
The other shows were able to put it behind them quickerFor me, as of us talking right now, the [replacement writers’ material] is still airing, so that has been very tough. I’m just very anxious and eager for our stuff to start airing again.
When the strike began in May 2023, Carlivati and his team had written through Thanksgiving. He went on to add:
I think some people think that I left some sort of road map that these people were following, and that is really not true
Carlivati remembers dealing with a similar issue during the 2007–08 WGA strike.
I lived through a strike in 2008, and there were many episodes of One Life to Live [OLTL] written while I was on strikehe recalls.
Like before, he aimed to quickly redirect the narrative upon his return.
I essentially came in and just played off everything that was happening and tried to start steering the ship relatively quickly back to my vision of the show
Fans of the Show Can Expect Major Storylines to Resume
Having reviewed the episodes he’d missed, Carlivati noted that several storylines — such as Sloan secretly raising Eric and Nicole’s baby — remained unresolved. This created opportunities for him to resume his original narrative threads.
I was sort of hoping that the big things we had laid in would be stuff that I would get to play off when I got back.
A key moment involves Alex being named Victor’s heir instead of Xander. Despite losing some threads during his absence, he managed to weave them back into the ongoing arcs.
Maggie Horton’s Wedding Event
The show’s restart aligns with major events like Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) and Konstantin’s wedding. Rogers has spent many years in various roles on the NBC drama. Following her character’s resurrection in 2003 and eventual return as a central supporting character in 2008, she reflects on her journey:
You almost think that they are talking about someone else because I am not really someone who pats myself on the back a lot so when someone else is doing it, it gets a little strange. I take it all with love, the way it was meant
Li Shin Murder Mystery Focal Point
The Li Shin murder storyline remains an ongoing investigation connecting various characters. With Clyde holding leverage over Stefan due to Gabi’s imprisonment—and new decisions by EJ—the stage is set for major revelations.
A New Gabi Lights Up Screens
An exciting twist awaits viewers as a new actress takes over Gabi’s role just as she gets out of jail, adding fresh dynamics to established relationships.
Bidding Farewell to Bill Hayes
The passing of long-time star Bill Hayes will be honored on-screen later this year. Hayes portrayed Doug Williams since 1970—a legacy celebrated through dedicated episodes planned around milestone moments.
Carlivati aims to align such poignant tributes with upcoming milestones like the 15,000th episode, balancing commemoration and celebration within key plotlines.
