The upcoming season of Chicago Fire is bringing major changes to Firehouse 51. With Eamonn Walker exiting his longtime role as Wallace Boden, fans are keen to see how the dynamics will shift.
Boden, played by Eamonn Walker, has been promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the entire Chicago Fire Department. According to a report, Boden will no longer be a series regular, although there’s a possibility that he might return for guest appearances.

Replacing Wallace Boden is a fresh face from Miami, Dom Pascal. Described as cheerful and adept under pressure, Dom brings a different leadership style compared to Boden. He has a lot of experience working in firefighting
, having been a chief in Miami for ten years.

Showrunner Andrea Newman indicated that Boden’s departure was meticulously crafted to resonate with the show’s narrative. As she mentioned, Boden has been managing a lot of change at home… and at 51, and learned a lot while doing it, including about himself.
Fans of the show are familiar with Boden’s situation—having taken a leave of absence over family matters, but the full details surrounding his exit remain to be revealed until the Season 12 finale.
New Faces Emerging
Season 13 doesn’t just bring Dom Pascal. Jocelyn Hudon joins as a new paramedic for Firehouse 51. Her arrival is expected to provide much-needed relief after several departures and changes in Ambulance 61. Romeo Flynn also made an impactful but brief appearance in Season 12 as Derek Gibson, exiting due to personal issues related to his character’s prescription drugs.
Rome Flynn’s Exit
Season 12 saw many notable departures, including Rome Flynn who portrayed Derek Gibson. His exit was woven into the storyline with his character dealing with personal struggles. Gibson had a withdrawal-induced breakdown because of his prescription drugs and told Stella he was leaving Firehouse 51 to enter treatment.
