Saying Ghostbusters is a beloved pop-cultural franchise would be an understatement. Since the original Ivan Reitman-directed Ghostbusters premiered on June 8, 1984 
—with an all-star comedic cast that includes Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis—the supernatural franchise has spawned sequels, reboots, and more.
As the fantastical comedy reaches its 40th anniversary this weekend, it’s worth noting the legacy left behind. The team of eccentric parapsychologists turned ghost-catchers navigated existential threats after stumbling upon a gateway to another dimension in New York City.
The celebration continues with screenings of these celebrated films. On Saturday, June 8, Syfy will air the 1984 Ghostbusters from 7:05pm to 9:30pm Eastern Time, followed by its sequel, 1989’s Ghostbusters II, until 11:55pm ET. This sequel sees the return of Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and others as they reunite against new paranormal threats assembled from the negative emotions of New Yorkers. 
Ghostbusters: Afterlife, directed by Jason Reitman (son of premiere director Ivan Reitman), continues the saga directly from the 1989 film. New castmates like Carrie Coon,
Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, and Paul Rudd join familiar faces.
This adventure follows Callie (Coon) and her children Phoebe (Grace) and Trevor (Wolfhard) as they uncover their familial ties to the supernatural world.
