Impressive Accomplishments
Young has already built a substantial resume. He represented his home country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and in high school, he clinched the Washington State High School championship in the 50 free twice and was runner-up in the 100 free twice. Remarkably, he even broke Matt King’s all-time state record with a winning time of 19.73 in the 50 free.
A Future at Arizona State University
Tolu Young is set to make waves both academically and athletically at Arizona State University. He stated, I’m blessed for the opportunity to continue my academics and swimming at Arizona State University. I felt a strong connection with the ASU coaches and swimmers during my visit. Interestingly, despite the achievements and records, Young maintains a grounded approach. His mentors, including his coaches at ASU, have played an integral role in this journey, exemplifying that coaches are responsible for an athlete’s success, encouraging greatness.

Tolu Young continues to draw inspiration from prominent figures like Simone Manuel. Reflecting on his mindset, Manuel once shared, I spent a lot of time watching races where I won. I wanted to channel that Simone because I know I’m a winner.
Likewise, Young’s focus remains unwavering as he gears up for this prestigious competition. With each day bringing him closer to Tokyo, he brilliantly balances humility with ambition.
